Biography
Formerly the Permanent Building Society of Nelson which was formed in 1862, after a meeting called by Isaac Mason Hill. By 1867 the Society had over 500 members. Its first offices were in Waimea Street (now Rutherford Street), and in 1879 the business moved to Hardy Street. The Society changed its name to the Nelson Building Society around 1982, and operates from premises in Trafalgar Street, which it built in 1963.
