Nelson Historical Society

Biography
The Nelson Historical Society was formed in 1954 to collect archival material relating to the northern part of the South Island and to promote research into the history of the area. It was centrally involved in negotiations with local authorities to form the Nelson Provincial Museum Trust Board, which took over the Society's collection in 1965. Other activities included the regular publication of a Journal of local history research, advocacy for the preservation of historical features and the organising of talks and trips for members.
