Use the transcription copy at MS-Copy-017 ROP, LS24.1.H.6 Box 4.
At back of diary, on 'cash account' pages, the diary begins dated Nov 14 [1916] and goes through to 31 Dec when the author is in Nelson. This leads onto the first entry in the 1917 diary, through to Dec then returns to the "Notes" page at the front with entries for 1 Jan 1918, 5 Jan 1918 and 2 Feb 1918.

Maker biography
Joined the Golden Bay Shipping Company at Port Nelson, ca. Mar 1911. A year later he joined the Anchor Shipping Company. He was invalided home from the army in 1918 and thinks of his two years in the army as the best in his life. He retired in late Sep 1961 after nine and a half years as manager of the Nelson branch of Burns Philp & Co. (NEM, 23 Sep, 1961 - in Field scrapbook 5, p.22)
Private with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, 23rd Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company. He embarked on the Corinthic (Ship) on 2 Apr 1917 at Wellington. His serial number: 40245. (From Cenotaph database Nov 2013)
