Description
Handcoloured lithograph on cream paper with card backing. The print is a botanical illustration of part of a shrub with fruit. One brown branching stem is depicted with opposite leaves on petioles. Stems are jointed and swollen at the point of leaf attachment. On some leaves the stipules are fused to the petiole forming narrow wings. The green leaf blades are heart shaped with palmate venation. The green fruit spikes are on short stems.

The print is titled "Piper excelsum. (Kawakawa)" and "A large bush often 20 feet high, leaves very aromatic berries yellow with black spots. North Island, and as far south as Canterbury"
