This image first appeared in the 10 September 1892 issue of The New Zealand Graphic.and Ladies Journal as the fourth in a series of “Scenes round Parnell”. The artist was Claude Lorraine Kerry (1859-1950), a well-known name in Auckland art circles in the 1890s and early 1900s but probably now best remembered as the subject of a portrait by his friend Charles Goldie. The building depicted is not actually a church but Bishopscourt, the residence of the Anglican Bishop of Auckland.
