He stands with both gloved hands by his sides, one hand is holding a top hat. His feet are placed slightly apart. The man has short hair swept forward, with bushy sideburns and a prominent nose. He wears a coat with tails, a high collar, and pants. The suggestion of a shadow is painted at his feet.

The painting is not titled, signed or dated.
