It is their grandson, son of their youngest daughter who never married.

This is John Cox and his wife Ann and their son Ernest Alfred Cox along with their cab and horse outside their house/cottage at 28 Waimea Road. The cottage is still there (2023) and the driveway on the right hand side is Cox Lane. Both John and Ann died within months of each other in 1903. Their son Ernest Alfred was still living in the cottage in 1915 with an occupation as a cab proprietor.
