Possibly: Private John Robert HALDANE (1897-1957). NZEF Service : 63146 : Private, Otago Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, E. Company, 32nd Reinforcements, NZEF. Born 18 June 1897 - at Takaka, Tasman District. Son of John & Margaret Haldane - of Takaka. Prior to enlistment for war service John Haldane was an Engineering Student - at Canterbury College ( now University of Canterbury) - Christchurch. John Haldane enlisted for war service - on 19 June 1917 - at Nelson. He was 20 years of age. On 22 November 1917 Private Haldane left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 32nd Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship 'Willochra'. Private John Haldane served at France (1918). On 14 April 1918 Private John Haldane joined his unit - E. Company of the 2nd Battalion, Otago Infantry Regiment NZEF - in the field - at France. One year later - on 11 March 1919 - Private Haldane embarked from England - aboard SS 'Raranga' - and he returned home to New Zealand. He was discharged from the NZEF - on arrival at New Zealand - on 28 May 1919. He had served overseas with the NZEF for 1 year & 344 days. John R. Haldane died - 14 August 1957 - at Nelson. He was 60 years of age. He is buried at the Bainham Cemetery, Tasman District : Grave ref : Block C; Row 48. For the full military record of Private John R.
