Head and shoulders studio portrait of Private Willie Stuart Gentry Buckman (serial no. 16525) in military uniform. Buckman was born on 14 June 1898 in Blenheim, New Zealand. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as W.H. Buckman (father), Havelock, Marlborough, New Zealand. Buckman worked as a motor mechanic before enlisting for service during World War One. He embarked with the 15th Reinforcements Specialist Machine-Gun Section on 26 July 1916 from Wellington, New Zealand for Devonport, England. Buckman served for one year and three hundred and thirty days before being discharged as no longer physically fit for service due to wounds received in action on 31 January 1918.
