Description
Three quarter length studio portrait of a seated man in military uniform with a baby on a table beside him. Thought to be Sergeant Andrew Watson Yuill (serial no. 15063) holding his son Andrew Watson Yuill. Yuill was born on 16 October 1880 in Scotland. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Mrs A.W. Yuill (wife), Aldersyde, Halifax Street, Nelson, New Zealand. Yuill married Helen Frances Holdaway in Braeburn, Nelson on 31 December 1912. They had one child before World War One named Andrew Watson, who was born in December 1915 in Braeburn, Nelson. Yuill worked for himself as a plumber before enlisting for service during World War One. He embarked with the 14th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company on 26 June 1916 from Wellington, New Zealand for Devonport, England. He served for two years and two hundred and thirty-three days in Western Europe. Yuill was discharged as no longer physically fit for war service on account of wounds received during active service on 23 October 1918. Yuill died on 13 July 1969 in Nelson, New Zealand.
