Description
Head and shoulders studio portrait of a seated man in military uniform. Thought to be Edward Blechynden (serial no. 78772). Blechynden was born on 20 April 1898 in China. His next of kin is listed as Mrs S.J. Blechynden (mother), Brougham Street, Nelson, NZ. Blechynden worked as a marine engineer for the Anchor Foundry before enlisting for service during World War One. His date of attestation is 30 April 1918. Following his enlistment he qualified as a marksman and was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Based on Blechynden's Archway record it is believed he did not serve overseas.
