Full length studio portrait of a man in military uniform, and a bride. Thought to be Lance Sergeant Ernest-Hillin Burnett (serial no. 6/200) and his wife Ethel Hope Vaughn. Burnett was born on 20 July 1890 in Dovedale. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Thomas Burnett (father), Awa, Nelson, New Zealand. Burnett worked as a farmer before enlisting to serve during World War One. He served with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion and embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington Burnett joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. Burnett served for one year and one hundred and eighty-six days in Egypt and Gallipoli. He was discharged on 14 February 1916. Ernest-Hillin Burnett married Ethel Hope Vaughn on 29 December 1915 in the Presbyterian Church, Takaka. Burnett died in Wakefield on 20 Decemeber 1951.
