Possibly: Private Hohepa Tuainani KOTUA (1892-1960). NZEF Service 16/273 : Private, 1st Maori Contingent, A. Company, NZEF. Born 25 September 1892 - at Wellington. Son of Mrs H. Kotua - of Croixelles, Nelson District. Hohepa Kotua enlisted for war service on 20 October 1914. On 14 February 1915 Private Kotua left New Zealand for overseas war service - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship T20 'Warrimoo'. On 26 March 1915 Private Kotua disembarked - from his transport ship from New Zealand - at Suez, Egypt. Private Hohepa Kotua served Egypt (1914-1915); Gallipoli (1915) and France & Belgium (1916-1918). Private Kotua served at Gallipoli, Turkey (1915) until he was medically evacuated (sick) - on 9 August 1915 - to, firstly, Mudros (Greece) and then to England. On 21 November 1915 Private Kotua re-joined his unit at Gallipoli, Turkey. On 27 December 1915 Private Kotua was evacuated - with all ANZAC forces - from Gallipoli to Alexandria, Egypt. On 9 April 1916 Private Kotua embarked at Port Said, Egypt - for war service at France. Private Kotua served at France (1916-1918). Private Kotua survived war service - and he returned to New Zealand aboard HMNZ Transport Ship 'Mokoia' - arriving at New Zealand in July 1918. Hohepa Kotua also served in World War 2 - in Fiji - from 1940 to 1941. Hohepa Kotua died - 16 July 1960 - at Lower Hutt, Wellington District. He was 67 years of age. For Private Hohepa T.
