Copy of a photograph of Private William Frederick James Harvey (serial no. 6/254) and Private Percy Harvey (serial no. 7/209) in military uniform. William Frederick James Harvey was born on 7 November 1887 in Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand, the son of Frederick John and Fanny Jane Harvey. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Fred Harvey (father), Rockville, Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand. Harvey worked as a labourer for H James in Collingwood, New Zealand before enlisting for service during World War One. He enlisted from Collingwood, New Zealand and embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington he joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. He served for three years and fifty-six days including campaigns in Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front. The last unit Harvey served in was the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Harvey was badly wounded in March 1917 in Messines. He was classified unfit for war service on 6 July 1917 and returned to New Zealand. Harvey was formally discharged from war service on 12 October 1917. Harvey died of wounds received during active service on 5 November 1919 in Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand. He was thirty-one years old. Harvey is buried in Collingwood Cemetery, Collingwood-Bainham Road, Golden Bay, Tasman District, New Zealand.

Percy Harvey was born on 21 July 1894 in Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand, the son of Frederick John and Fanny Jane Harvey. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Fred Harvey (father), Rockville, Collingwood, Nelson, New Zealand. Harvey worked as a farm labourer for Arthur Skilton in Rockville, Collingwood, New Zealand before enlisting for service during World War One. He enlisted from Collingwood, New Zealand and embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington he joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. He served for almost two years in Egypt, the Balkans and Western Europe. The last unit he served with was the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Harvey died of wounds on 28 September 1916. He was twenty-two years old. Harvey is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas-de-Calais, France.

William Frederick James Harvey and Percy Harvey had two other brothers. All four served in the same unit during WWI. Three were killed during the war: Charles Harvey (23/1661), Percy Harvey (7/209) and Frederick Harvey (6/3342). The other brother, William Harvey (6/254), returned to New Zealand and died of wounds within a year.
