Trooper Leslie Spencer GOODALL (1886-1972). NZEF Service # 7/1733 : Trooper, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, G Squadron, 7th Reinforcements, NZEF. Born 26 September 1886 - at Motueka, Tasman District. Leslie was the son of Mrs M. Goodall - of Lower Moutere, Nelson District. Prior to enlistment for war service Leslie Goodall was employed as a Farmer - by F. Hallam - at Lower Moutere, Nelson District. Leslie Goodall enlisted for war service - on 25 August 1915 - at Trentham Military Training Camp, Wellington District. He was 25 years of age. At enlistment he was posted as a Trooper - with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, G. Squadron, 7th Reinforcements, NZEF. On 9 October 1915 Trooper Goodall left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 7th Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship either T32 'Aparima' - or T33 'Navua' - or T34 'Warrimoo.' On 18 November 1915 Trooper Goodall disembarked - from his transport ship from New Zealand - at Suez, Egypt. Trooper Goodall served at Egypt (1915 & 1916). On 23 January 1916 Trooper Goodall embarked from Egypt to serve - with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, NZEF - in the Suez Canal region. On 11 August 1916 Trooper Leslie Goodall was wounded in action - at Kantara. On 1 September 1916 Trooper Goodall was invalided home from Egypt to New Zealand - aboard SS 'Ascarius'. On 27 December 1916 Trooper Leslie S. Goodall was discharged from the NZEF at New Zealand - as no longer physically fit for further war service on account of wounds received in action - on 11 August 1916 - at Kantara. Trooper Goodall had served overseas - with the NZEF - for 1 year & 3 days. Leslie S. Goodall also served in World War 2 (New Zealand Home Guard). Leslie S. Goodall died - 23 July 1972 - at Nelson.
