Rifleman Douglas William BATT (1894-1966). NZEF Service # 24/968 : Rifleman, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion, D. Company, NZEF. Born 20 September 1894 - at Nelson. Son of William Batt - of Wakefield, Nelson District. Prior to enlistment for war service Douglas Batt was employed as a Farmer - by his father William Batt - at Wakefield, Nelson. Douglas Batt enlisted for war service - on 29 May 1915 - at Trentham Military Training Camp, Wellington District. He was 20 years of age. At enlistment Douglas Batt was posted as a Rifleman - with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion, NZEF. Rifleman Batt served at Egypt (1915-1916); France & Belgium (1916-1917 & 1918). Rifleman Douglas Batt also served with the : (1) New Zealand Field Ambulance, NZEF - at France (1916 & 1917) and also with (2) the Wellington Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion NZEF - at France (1917). After war service Rifleman Douglas Batt returned home to New Zealand - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship 'Ionic' - which departed Plymouth, England on 24 August 1918 - and arrived at New Zealand on 2 December 1918. Rifleman Douglas Batt was discharged from the NZEF - on 2 December 1918. He had served overseas with the NZEF - for 2 years & 303 days. Douglas W.
