Full length studio portrait of two men in military uniform. The man on the left of the image is Lance Corporal Uno Joseph Bartlett (serial no.7/162). Bartlett was born on 20 July 1892. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Robert Bartlett (father), Takaka, Nelson, New Zealand. Bartlett worked for his father as a farmer in Takaka before enlisting for service during World War One. He enlisted from Nelson, New Zealand and joined the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. He embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington he joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. Bartlett served for five years and one hundred and twenty-nine days in Egypt, Gallipoli and Western Europe. Bartlett survived the war and was discharged on 19 December 1919. Bartlett died on 17 May 1982.

The man on the right is Corporal Leslie William Nalder. Corporal Leslie William Nalder (serial no. 7/243) was born on 3 October 1892 in Takaka New Zealand. Nalder was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Nalder, of Motupipi, Nelson, New Zealand. Before World War One he worked for himself as a farmer in Takaka. He enlisted to serve during World War One as a Lance Corporal and was later promoted to Corporal. Nalder joined the Canterbury Mounted Rifles and embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington he joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. He was killed in action on 6 August 1915 or 7 August 1915 in Gallipoli, Turkey. Nalder's memorial is located at Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial, Chunuk Bair Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.

The soldier standing left of Corporal Leslie Nalder is not Private Guy Nalder. He is Lance Corporal Uno Joseph BARTLETT (1890-1982) - of Motupipi, Takaka, Tasman. NZEF Service # 7/1162 : Lance Corporal, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, 2nd Battalion, 10th (Nelson) Squadron, 1st Machine Gun Company, Main Body, NZEF. Uno was the son of Robert & Martha Bartlett - of Motupipi, Takaka. Uno was 1 of 13 children. Prior to enlistment for war service Uno Bartlett was a Farm labourer - employed by his father Robert Bartlett - on the family farm at Motupipi, Takaka. Uno Bartlett enlisted for war service in August 1914. He left New Zealand for overseas war service - 16 October 1914 - with the Main Body, NZEF - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship either T4 'Tahiti' or T11 'Athenic'. Lance Corporal Uno Bartlett served Egypt (1914-1916); Gallipoli (1915); France & Belgium (1916-1917-1918) and Germany (1919). Lance Corporal Uno Bartlett returned home to New Zealand in 1919. He was discharged from further war service with the NZEF on 19 December 1919. Lance Corporal Uno J. Bartlett died - 17 May 1982 - at Collingwood, Tasman.
