Description
Full length studio portrait of a man in military uniform. Thought to be Trooper Oliver Theodore Hill (Serial No.67844 and 2/21/183). Hill was born on 4 April 1896 in Nelson, New Zealand. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as F.W. Hill (father), Spring Grove, Nelson, New Zealand. Before World War One Hill worked as a farm hand in Kaponga Eltham. During World War One Hill served with the 39th Reinforcements Mounted Rifles Brigade. He embarked from Wellington, New Zealand on 9 August 1918 for Egypt. Hill survived the war and was discharged on 11 October 1919. After World War One Hill married and moved to Nelson where he worked for Cookery & Co as a motor driver. He later served during World War Two.
