Description
Full length studio portrait of Mr John Smith. He stands behind a knee-high decorative wall, one hand on a column and his other hand holding a hat. One foot is on the edge of the wall, with his arm across his knee. His gaze does not meet the camera. Distinguishing features include the bound edges of his waistcoat and jacket. Studio props include a short decorative column, round piece of wood, small urn, stems of plants and seed pods, decorative wall, and hat. The backdrop is a painted mural including a tree with a vine covered trunk, forest, and clearing.
The inscription 'Mr John Smith' and '= 7707 = December / 1886 =' is in mirror writing.
