Sergeant Harry BARLOW DCM NZEF Service # 6/194; Sergeant, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, Main Body, NZEF. Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for Acts of Gallantry & Devotion to Duty - on 15 July 1915 - at Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey (London Gazette; 6 September 1915). Born 25 December 1888 - at Manchester, England. Harry Barlow was the son of John Barlow - of Radeliffe, Manchester, England. Prior to enlistment for war service Harry Barlow was employed as a Miner - at Golden Bay, Tasman District. Harry Barlow enlisted for war service - on 17 August 1914 - at Nelson. He was 28 years of age. At enlistment Harry Barlow was posted as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, Main Body, NZEF. On 16 October 1914 Private Harry Barlow left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the Main Body NZEF - aboard HMNZ transport ship T11 'Athenic' - from Port of Wellington. Private Barlow served at Egypt & Gallipoli, Turkey. During his war service he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Barlow was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) for Acts of Gallantry & Devotion to Duty - on 15 July 1915 - at Gallipoli, Turkey. Sergeant Barlow was medically evacuated (sick) from Gallipoli to England. He was later invalided to New Zealand aboard SS 'Rotorua' - which left England on 1 September 1915 and arrived at New Zealand on 3 February 1916. He was discharged from the NZEF on 16 March 1916.
