Full length environmental group portrait of a the Nelson Rifles Officers group. There are fourteen men in the photograph. Two men sit on the ground, with legs folded and crossed at the ankles and inside arms on a drum on its side on the ground. One man holds a horn and the other drum sticks. In the second row three men are seated, flanked at either end by crouching men. Seven men stand in the third row, with their arms crossed in front of them. Distinguishing features include their uniform with hat swept up to one side, and firearms stacked in tripod formations at both sides of the group. Props include musical instruments and firearms. In the foreground is a hard surface and in the background is the wooden panelling of a building wall with a quoined corner.
