Maker biography
Thomas John Thompson, surveyor, arrived in Nelson aboard "Lord Auckland" in 1842. Thompson and John Wallis Barnicoat worked together on surveys for the NZ Company including a survey of the lower Wairau Valley in 1843. Thompson married Sarah Hargreaves in 1846. He established a farm, "Headingly" in Lower Queen Street, Richmond where he lived for many years.
