Private Edward HAGEN (1882-1918). NZEF Service # 61136; Private, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 30th Reinforcements, NZEF. Born 4 August 1882 - at Spring Grove, Nelson District. Son of James & Jessie Hagen - of Spring Grove. Prior to enlistment for war service Edward Hagen was a farmer - at Spring Grove. Edward Hagen enlisted for war service on 8 March 1917. He was 34 years of age. On 13 October 1917 Private Hagen left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 30th Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZ transport ship T93 'Corinthic' - from Port of Wellington. Private Hagen served at France until he was killed in action - on 1 June 1918 - at the Somme Sector, Armentieres, France.
