Object Detail

Description
Large ornate table centrepiece, with a large central crystal bowl supported on a silver plated stand. The legs of the stand are curved, with scalloped feet at the bottom, and lion's heads at the top. The lion's heads support a scallop-lipped circular mount into which the bowl is placed. From the base of central stand radiate four twisted branches, supporting smaller crystal bowls at their terminal ends. All the bowls are deeply incised with cross-hatches, and ribbed, with scalloped edges, reminiscent of a thistle flower. There are six crystal cups and six metal saucers which are placed around the stand. The metal saucers have a brassy gold coloured centre with a decorative floral silvered edge.

Donated to the Nelson Provincial Museum in 1962 by Miss Julie Tomlinson (c1876-1962).
