Object Detail

Handcoloured lithograph on cream paper with card backing. The print is a botanical illustration of part of a vine with flowers. One green stem is depicted at the top of the composition, branching out and down, with leaves on petioles. The green leaf blades are heart-shaped. The solitary flowers are at the terminal ends of the stems on long pedicels. The star-shaped flowers have 6 to 7 free petals radiating out from a centre of multiple crimson and yellow stamens. Some flowers are depicted as light green-white oval buds.

The print is "Clematis indivisa (Puawhananga) Some Authorities leave out the h in Puawhananga" and "A large strong woody climber abundant throughout New Zealand festooning trees especially on the skirts of the forest. Flowers white"
