Object Detail

Handcoloured lithograph on cream paper with card backing. The print is a botanical illustration of part of a fern. Several green fronds are depicted on long green curved petioles. The leaf blades are kidney-shaped with palmate venation. The larger leaves have a brown dotted margin, representing sori. Behind the fern, green compound leaves with odd pinnate formation are depicted.

"Trichomanes reniforme (Kidney fern)" and "Abundant in forest of both Islands growing on damp and rotten logs. Fronds nearly transparent when fresh. One fo the nmost beautiful and singular ferns; confined to New Zealand."
