Object Detail

Watercolour painting on rectangular sheet of brown paper, with a brown window mount, and backing. The painting is a botanical illustration of a plant with flowers. There are several compound leaf blades radiating out from a central base. The leaflets are green on top with deeply serrated margins, and white to orange underneath, on red petioles. Tall, slender, branching red stalks sheathed with orange bracts rise up from the centre of the plant. At the terminal ends of the red stalks are clusters of tiny white flowers. There are leaves and flowers depicted in a wash of colours. There is a tiny pencil drawing of a flower on the left.

The painting is marked "N.J" and "LigusticuM."
