He sits sideways in a chair, one arm on the back of the chair and one hand on his lap. He sits with his legs crossed at the knee. He wears a jacket, waistcoat, shirt with a high collar and necktie, and pants.

The print is signed, titled and dedicated "J.S. Stott direx", "Day & Son lithographers to the Queen", "Henry Seymour esq M.L.C.", "Nelson, New Zealand." and "Yours very faithfully H. Seymour".
