Maker biography

Francis Dillon Bell, 1821-1898, was the acting secretary for the New Zealand Company in London in 1841 and he emigrated to New Zealand in 1843.
He succeeded Fox as the resident agent for the New Zealand Company in Nelson. He married Margaret Hort in 1850 and had a son Francis Dillon Bell in 1851. They had a family of 7 children in all. The Bell family moved to the Hutt Valley in 1850 and Bell later became Agent General in London.
