Object Detail

Description
Miniature oil painting on an ovular bone/shell, with metal frame and glass. The frame has an eyelet at centre top through which an orange ribbon is threaded. The painting depicts a head and shoulders portrait of a man. His gaze does not meet the viewer. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He wears a dark coloured double breasted jacket, white shirt, and a high white necktie and collar that covers his neck up to the chin. The background is neutral.

On the reverse a woven lattice of hair is encased under glass. In the middle of the design is a cursive monogram, possibly the letter 'B'. The monogram and the hair is a light brown colour.

The miniature is not titled, signed or dated.
