Standing front : Possibly: RNR Charles Siegmond JACOBSEN (1887-1960). NZEF Service # 6/658; RNR HMS 'Redoubtable', Royal Naval Reserve. Born 1 August 1887 - at Nelson. Son of Mrs Mary Jacobsen - of Milton Street, Nelson. Prior to enlistment for war service Charles Jacobsen was employed as a Marine Engineer - with the Hokitika Ships' Company - at Hokitika. Charles Jacobsen enlisted for war service - on 14 August 1914 - at Hokitika. At enlistment he was posted as a Private, with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, Main Body, NZEF. Private Jacobsen served at Egypt (1915); Gallipoli (1915) & France & Belgium (1916 & 1917). On 20 April 1917 Private Jacobsen was discharged from the NZEF - and he transferred as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, New Zealand Division, NZEF - to the Royal Naval Reserve - serving aboard HMS 'Redoubtable'. He was recorded as serving aboard this ship in September 1918. RNR Jacobsen survived war service and returned to New Zealand. Charles Jacobsen died - 24 March 1960 - at Blenheim.
