Rifleman Ronald George FOWLER (1894-1916). NZEF Service # 24/2197; Rifleman, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 3rd Battalion, 5th Reinforcements, NZEF. Served Samoa (1914) & France (1916). Born 7 May 1894 - at Nelson, New Zealand. Son of Mrs C. Fowler - of Maxwell Road Extension, Blenheim, Marlborough Region. Prior to enlistment for war service Ronald Fowler was a Railways Fireman - at Paekakariki, Kapiti Coast, Wellington Region. Rifleman Ronald Fowler enlisted twice for war service : Enlistment 1 : August 1914 - Served as a Sapper with the New Zealand Field Engineers, Samoa Advance Party NZEF, Samoa, Pacific Islands. Enlistment 2 : 14 December 1915. Posted, at enlistment (2) as a Rifleman with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 3rd Battalion, 5th Reinforcements, NZEF. Rifleman Fowler left New Zealand for overseas war service - on 1 April 1916. Rifleman Ronald George Fowler served at France (1916). Rifleman Ronald George Fowler served at France until he was killed in action - on 2 October 1916 - at the Somme, France. Rifleman Ronald George Fowler has no known grave at France - but he is commemorated on the Caterpillar Valley (New Zealand) Memorial, Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, Somme, France.
