Copy of a photograph of a man in military uniform. Thought to be Second Lieutenant Allen James Farnell (serial no. 44191). Farnell was born on 18 January 1886 in Havelock, Marlborough, New Zealand. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Mrs Jane Farnell (mother), Havelock Suburban, Marlborough, New Zealand. Farnell worked as a church student for the Bishop of Nelson before enlisting for service during World War One. He joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force 27th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company and embarked on 12 June 1917 from Wellington, New Zealand for Devonport, England. Farnell served for two years and sixty-eight days in Western Europe before being discharged on 10 March 1919.
