Copy of a photograph of Private Richard Henry Climo (serial no. 6/3658) in military uniform. Climo was born on 9 August 1897 in Australia. On the Auckland War Memorial Museum Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as Mrs W.F. Pope (mother), Deep Creek, Marlborough, New Zealand. Climo worked as a labourer before enlisting for service during World War One. He served with the 9th Reinforcements Canterbury Infantry Battalion, C Company and embarked on 8 January 1916 from Wellington, New Zealand for Egypt. Climo served for over two years in Egypt and Western Europe before being discharged on 18 June 1918 as no longer physically fit for war service due to injuries received in action.

My Climo family records have Richard's birthplace as Pelorus (9 Aug 1897). He died in Australia - census records have him residing in Gilgandra, Darling NSW in 1937. He married Lily Dore in New Zealand (probably in Marlborough area) in 1923. Richard's death is recorded in 1944 in Randwic, NSW.
