Description
Copy of a photograph of seven men in military uniform. Four of the men are thought to be wearing Canterbury Infantry collar badges and one man is thought to be wearing New Zealand Artillery collar badges. The remaining two men are not wearing any regimental badges.

Standing back - 2nd from right: Private James Daniel Bromley TOMLINSON (1876-1917). NZEF Service # 31553; Private, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, 19th Reinforcements, NZEF. Born 4 June 1876 at Waimea West, Nelson. James Tomlinson enlisted for war service - on 24 July 1916. On 15 November 1916 Private Tomlinson left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 19th Reinforcements NZEF Private James Daniel Bromley Tomlinson was killed in action - on 12 October 1917 - at Passchendaele, Belgium. Private Tomlinson has no known grave at Belgium - but he is commemorated on the Tyne Cot (New Zealand) Memorial, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West Vlaanderen, Belgium (Panel ref: New Zealand Apse; Panel 2). Private James D.B. Tomlinson is also remembered on the Brightwater War Memorial (1914-1918) - at Brightwater, Nelson Region.
