Possibly: Lance Corporal Edgar William ADAIR (1895-1931). NZEF Service # 26232; Lance Corporal, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 12th (Nelson) Company, 17th Reinforcements, NZEF. Born 30 January 1895 - at Nelson. Son of William Adair, of Milton Street, Nelson. He was also the husband of Dorothy G. Adair - of Wakefield, Nelson District. Prior to enlistment for war service Edgar Adair was employed as a Telegraph Operator - by the New Zealand Government. Edgar Adair enlisted for war service - on 21 May 1916 - at Nelson. At enlistment he was posted as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, NZEF. At training camp, in New Zealand, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal - on 19 September 1916. On 23 September 1916 Lance Corporal Adair left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 17th Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZ transport ship 'Pakeha' - from Port of Wellington. On 5 January 1917 Lance Corporal Adair joined the 2nd Battalion of the Canterbury Infantry Regiment NZEF - in the field at France. He was posted to the 12th (Nelson) Company. Lance Corporal Adair served at France & Belgium until he was wounded in action on 12 October 1917 - at Passchendaele, Belgium. He was medically evacuated from Belgium to England. On 8 January 1918 - at England - Lance Corporal Adair was classified unfit for further war service - on account of wounds received in action at Belgium - on 12 October 1917. Lance Corporal Adair was invalided to New Zealand aboard HT 'Marama' - which left Avonmouth, England, on 6 April 1918. Lance Corporal Edgar Adair was discharged from the NZEF on 28 April 1920.
