Description
Head and shoulders studio portrait of a man in military uniform. It is thought this man is Alfred Kennedy Sloan (serial No. 6/352 and 819127). Sloan was born on 21 May 1892 in Reefton, New Zealand. On the Auckland Cenotaph database his next of kin is listed as William James Sloan (father), 51 Milton Street, Nelson, New Zealand. Before World War One Sloan worked as a plumber. He enlisted during World War One as a Lance Corporal and joined the Canterbury Infantry Battalion. His enlistment address was 51 Milton Street, Nelson, New Zealand. He is thought to have embarked on 24 September 1914 from Lyttelton, Canterbury, New Zealand for Wellington, New Zealand. From Wellington he joined the Main Body and embarked on 16 October 1914 for Egypt. Sloan survived the war and was discharged on 13 April 1919. Following World War One Sloan served during World War Two. Sloan was promoted to Sergeant either during World War One or World War Two. Sloan died on 15 March 1962 in Nelson.
