Head and shoulders studio portrait of Edward John Baigent (serial number 6/752) in military uniform. Baigent was born on 31 July 1893 to Charlotte White Baigent and Joseph Baigent, Wakefield, Nelson, New Zealand. Baigent, a farmer from Wakefield, Nelson, joined the Canterbury Infantry Battalion as a Private during World War One. He embarked from Lyttelton, Canterbury on 16 October 1914, and served in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Belgian. Baigent survived the war and was discharged on 12 December 1918. He died on 6 September 1973 in Opotiki, survived by Mrs M. Baigent, Hospitl Hill, Opotiki, New Zealand.
