Bird, Species Unknown (Hawk?)

Production date
1866
Description
Taxidermy white bird with curved beak and yellow/greenish upper area of beak, attached at feet to two twisted branches. Branches attached to wooden base with small amount of gravel on top, and blue paper glued underneath. . Exhibition label reads "NZ HAWK ALBINO". Original handwritten label was still attached with push pin, the rusted pin has made the donor name almost illegible "Locality: Riwaka / Donor: Mr [...]dall". Bird has closed wings posture. Species not identified. Provenance from 1866 Nelson Institute exhibition listings shows mention of "white hawk" from Mr Goodall. In 1925 Mrs Moncrieff mentions an Albino Hawk on display in Museum (which could be same specimen).
