Collection of 28 dried and mounted grasses with roots and flowers collected by John Buchanan from Horoirangi/Drumduan in the Nelson Region, and also Riwaka Valley. Combination of native and introduced grasses. Sent from Buchanan to Mr Mackay (Thomas Mackay) some time after 1880. Herbarium includes letter from Buchanan to Mackay discussing collecting of the specimens during "the flowering season". Notes about each grass handwritten by Buchanan on each page documenting the name of the grass and whether it makes good feed for cattle or sheep.
