A diary from 1920. Quote on cover: "To a cruel war 1 sent him;..." is adapted from the play Coriolanus by William Shakespeare. The diary is a part of the Atmore Collection concerning Harry and Dorothy A. Atmore, AG 377. Harry Atmore (1870-1946) was a Nelson City Councillor and M.P. for Nelson. He married Dorothy Corrigan (1895 - 1976) in 1936. During the WWI she was a member of the Women's National Reserve and was awarded the MBE.

A hand decorated testimony from the workers and sympathisers of the Red Cross presented to Julie Tomlinson in November 1919. The following is a quote from the testimony "you have given a memorable example of public spirit and patriotism which has brought credit not only to yourself but to the whole Nelson District". Julie Annie Tomlinson, c1876-1962, was involved with many Nelson organisations. She was secretary from 1915-1919 for the Red Cross in the Nelson District over the World War I period. She was awarded an MBE in 1958. The signatures of Red Cross workers and subscribes are contained in the volume.
