Daily entries covering Huffam's life in Nelson, voyage to Fiji during February 1914, his stay in Fiji, voyage to Brisbane working aboard "Amra" (May 1914), and life in Brisbane until his return to Nelson in January 1915. Comments about progress of the war during his stay in Australia, where he enlisted in the Naval Reserves and Expeditionary Forces in the hope of being called up. Original held at MS HUF. Photocopy.

Francis Lionel Weeks. Diary from arrival at Armetieres, on the Western Front, on 11 May [1916] describing every day life in trenches. The last entry is dated 19 November [1916].
Frank Weeks was a gunner in the 3rd New Zealand Light Trench Mortar Battery. He was killed in action in France, aged 19 years.

Includes a letter written in Weeks' diary by A.J. Waysh to Frank's mother about Frank's part in the battles, and expressing sympathy and regret at Frank's death.

A diary from 1920. Quote on cover: "To a cruel war 1 sent him;..." is adapted from the play Coriolanus by William Shakespeare. The diary is a part of the Atmore Collection concerning Harry and Dorothy A. Atmore, AG 377. Harry Atmore (1870-1946) was a Nelson City Councillor and M.P. for Nelson. He married Dorothy Corrigan (1895 - 1976) in 1936. During the WWI she was a member of the Women's National Reserve and was awarded the MBE.
