Handwritten diary covering two time periods. The first section covers Sep 21, 1841 to Feb 28, 1842. It was written when Lidbetter was 27 years old and covers the period when he was the ship's surgeon aboard the Lord Auckland (Ship). The second section, from page 63, covers the period March 29, 1863 to June 15, 1864 in Italy. The final 3 pages contain a meteorological journal of the voyage from London to Port Nelson aboard the Lord Auckland (Ship).

Book, bound, brown paper cover, 50 pages. The front cover has the title 'The Diary Alfred Fell' handwritten in pencil. The book is a journal hand-written by Alfred Fell. The journal describes the voyage undertaken by Fell on the Lord Auckland (ship) from England to Nelson and includes a log of sea and weather conditions. He left England in September 1841, reaching Nelson in February 1842.
