A painting by H Hilliard. The Queen Bee ran aground on the night of 6 August 1877, sailing from England, for Nelson. After abandoning ship to a lifeboat and raft some survivors eventually came ashore at Awaroa and others on D'Urville Island where they were assisted by Maori. 4000 Nelson citizens, a band and the Bishop welcomed survivors.

Miniature oil painting on an ovular bone/shell, with metal frame and glass. The frame has an eyelet at centre top through which an orange ribbon is threaded. The painting depicts a head and shoulders portrait of a man. His gaze does not meet the viewer. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He wears a dark coloured double breasted jacket, white shirt, and a high white necktie and collar that covers his neck up to the chin. The background is neutral.

On the reverse a woven lattice of hair is encased under glass. In the middle of the design is a cursive monogram, possibly the letter 'B'. The monogram and the hair is a light brown colour.

Handcoloured lithograph on cream paper with card backing. The print is a botanical illustration of parts of a tree with flowers. Two brown branching stems are depicted with alternate and opposite leaves. The dark green leaf blades are spear-shaped with pinnate venation. The flowers are at the terminal ends of the stalks. The flowers have a multitude of long red stamens with brown tips, with a green inferior ovary. Some flowers are depicted as green and red buds.

The print is titled "Metrosideros robusta (Rata)" and "A tall and beautiful forest tree abundant in the North and Middle Islands. Flowers scarlet. There are several species of Rata."

The dark green leaf blades are lance-shaped and lobed with pinnate venation. Green oval berries hang in a many branching cluster on green stalks with green pointed sepals.

The print is titled "Solanum aviculare. (Poroporo)" and "A shurb very common in the North Island, quickly springing up wherever the forest has been cleared. Leaves vary from 4-10 inches long. Berry yellow, edible."

Handcoloured lithograph on cream paper with card backing. The print is a botanical illustration of part of a shrub with flowers. One branching green stalk is depicted with compound leaves. The leaflets are small and elliptical, in an odd pinnate formation. There are small clusters of solitary hanging flowers on long pedicels. The flowers are bilateral with long, curved, pointed petals, similar in shape to a parrot’s beak. The petals are predominantly white-brown with pink tinges.

The print is titled "Clianthus puniceus (Kowhaingutu - kaka)" and "A shurb with scarlet flowers; now generally cultivated in gardens. A genus of most beautiful plants consisting of an Australian (Sturt's Pea) and a New Zealand species".

Two green branching stems are depicted with alternate leaves on long green petioles. The large oval leaf blades are green on top and grey underneath with pinnate venation. Clusters of flowers are at the terminal ends of the stems on long green stalks. The flowers have five round white petals with green centres on green pedicels. Some flowers are depicted as oval buds.

The print is titled "Ourisa macrophylla (Mountain Primula)" and "A lovely species from Mount Egmont range. It flowers in January. The flowers are pure white. Ruahine Range and Upper Wairua".

The green-brown fronds have a smooth, leathery appearance, with small pointed alternate leaflets on a thick green axis.

The print is titled "Asplenium flaccidum" and on a piece of paper affixed to paper "NGA MAKAWE A RAUKATAURI" and "Grows on the branches of trees throughout New Zealand. One of the most variable ferns known".

The green acuminate-shaped leaves have parallel venation. The red and green round berries have pointed bottoms, in many branched clusters.

The print is titled "Rhipogonum scandens. (Supple-jack)" and on a piece of paper affixed to paper "KAREAO or PIRITA" and "Tall climbing plant with long and slender stems forming interwoven wiry masses in the forest very difficult to penetrate. Flowers very small greenish while berries bright scarlet variable in size. Abundant throughout New Zealand. The long underground root stocks have been used as Sarsaparilla and the stems for basket work and hurdles."

The leaf blades are large and oval-shaped with serrated margins, green on top and white underneath, with pinnate venation. The cluster of flowers has long white free pointed petals radiating out from a yellow centre with green pointed sepals.

The print is titled "Senecio Hectori." and "A remarkably handsome shrub six to twelve feet high. Found by Sir James Hector on the Buller River, Nelson Province 1872. Flowers abundantly in January. Flowers white with yellow centres. It is the most beautiful of its species."
